“I habitually think of a bassoon as a bass instrument, probably because that’s its role in a woodwind quintet. But Shannon Lowe shines her warm instrument in quite a different light. In these works she phrases her long lyrical lines so that they not only sing but breathe with the gorgeous tone of a high baritone…”
Gil French, American Record Guide

“the bassoon playing of Shannon Lowe [is] unforced, delightful and relaxed… [her] playing, demonstrating the expressive range of her instrument…”
Joel C. Thompson, Cherry Grove Music Review

“[Shannon Lowe] is really a dynamite performer on her chosen instrument, as we find abundantly on display in ‘A Musical Bouquet,’ together with a little help from her friends.”
Phil Muse, Atlanta Audio Club

About the Artist's Instrument

I love my bassoon’s “baritone-like” sound capabilities and that it has such a reliable intonation across all the registers which makes my life so much easier! My Fox Model 601 fit me the best out of all the instruments that I tried. When I played my first notes on it, I knew it sounded exactly like what I envisioned my “bassoon voice” to be in my head.
