Who owns the business and how did it start?
Oboe Chicago is owned by me, Shawna Lake. I decided to open the business with strong encouragement, research, and planning, starting in 2006 with Fox Products as one of my strong choices of instruments to sell.

What expertise and services do you have to offer customers looking for a Fox instrument?
I am a professional oboist, with many years of not only playing experience, but teaching experience as well. I offer a complete consultation for the Fox oboe and English horn model choices. I help my clients find the oboe or English horn that fits their needs, their goals, and that helps fulfill their passion. I am completely confident in the quality of Fox’s instruments, as well as their lovely tone, and durability.

What is your favorite model Fox or Renard instrument?
Fox Model 880 Sayen oboe.

A fun fact, or anything else you’d like to add?

The instrument stands that I sell are handmade by a man whom I met through mutual friends. He is a former saxophonist and woodwind enthusiast who lives in the Chicago area, is in his 80s, and is a fabulous woodworker. His passion to create one of a kind wooden art from sustainable materials is a mutual passion of mine.

I love swimming and have two dogs. Pez is a 14 year old Japanese Chin and Darwin is a 3 year old Boykin Spaniel.
