PROFESSIONAL OBOE

Sayen Model 880 Maple

Made of select maple with the same thick wall design as the original Sayen oboe, the Sayen Maple Model 880 combines the beauty and sustainability of maple without compromising tone or intonation. The maple body makes the oboe 16% lighter than its grenadilla counterpart, while the fully lined upper and lower joints make it less susceptible to cracking. Maple adds a complexity of tone that both blends well in woodwind sections and projects well as a solo instrument.

“My maple Sayen oboe is super light and fun to play. It sounds great, has  wonderful projection, and a sound quality that I love!”

“I play in equal amounts of solo, chamber, and orchestral settings, including as a principal and 2nd oboe, and I find it equally well suited to all of my career’s varied demands. I’ve found that because of the build quality and thoughtful artistry that went into my instrument enable me to focus more on the music and my collaborations more and think about oboe-specific issues less than I ever have.”

Associate Professor of Oboe, University of Nevada, Reno
